Q: How do i breed cichlids?
Cichlids are a group of fishes with very interesting behaviour and a wide variety of breeding behaviours. Each different species has unique requirements to breed and you will have to find out more about your particular species. Examples on cichlid breeding behaviours are::
Mouth brooders: These fishes take their egg and fry in their mouth and carry them their where they are safe from predators. This behaviour is common among cichlids from the great African lakes and is also found in some south and Central American cichlids.
Cave breeders: These fishes lay their eggs in a cave and protect them there.
Open substrate breeders: These fishes lay their eggs on a lat substrate like a rock or a leaf and then guard them their. Different species prefer different substrates.
This was only a few examples on the different breedingВ behaviour cichlid species uses. |
