Breeding Gouramis
How to breed gouramis.
Decorate an
aquarium that has about 6 inches of water in it with a lot of plants and
floating plants. Don't use any kind of circulation in the aquarium. Make sure
that their are plenty of hiding places for the female since the male of some
Gourami species can be very aggressive towards the female if the female isn’t
ready to spawn. You can spawn several females with one male at the same time. Adjust
the aquarium size to the size of the Gourami species you want to breed.
The male will build a bubble nest among the plants on the surface. He will then
try to lure females in under the nest where the spawning will take place. The
eggs float up into the nest. Remove the female once the spawning is complete
since the male will se her as a potential threat to the eggs and chase her
away.
The male guards the egg and fry until they become free swimming. The fry is
very small and should be feed Infusoria or hard boiled egg yolk.
