Breeding Cichlids
My cichlids ate their eggs. What should i do?

There are a number of reasons that your cichlids might eat there own eggs.

First of all make sure that you are not trying to breed a mouth brooding species since those species are supposed to take the eggs in their mouth.

A common reason behind cichlids eating their own eggs are that they aren't mature enough yet to successfully spawn and these fishes will become good parents after a few spawning.

Another reason is that the fish is stressed by something in or around the aquarium. The problem can in these cases be solved by removing the stress elements.

Cichlids sometime form pairs consisting of two females in the absence of males and still spawn and lay eggs. These eggs are naturally not viable and the females will eat them after a few days.

Some cichlids do however newer become good parents and you might be forced to remove the parents from the eggs to be able to successfully breed these fish. But give them a few attempts before you resolve to such drastic solutions.
