Breeding Tetras
How important is soft water and low pH levels when breeding Tetras?
Soft water
and low pH levels are very important when breeding a number of different tetra
species. Many tetras will spawn even if the right water conditions aren’t meet
but the eggs will very seldom develop under these conditions and the survival
rate among fry that do hatch is much lower since the fry is much more susceptible
to different infections in harder water and in water with a higher pH level. Tetras
that are aquarium breed since several generations are usually easier to breed
in hard waters.
